How to Be a Hippie Chick
The history of the hippie goes back to the 1940s when young people went to coffee shops and jazz clubs to share thoughts against established bureaucracies and ideas and to listen to poetry. They described themselves as “hip.” As the culture spread to college campuses, more young people called “hippies” became outspoken about governmental policies, civil rights and war. Thoughts and ideas were communicated through music and dress that thumbed its nose at conformity.
